As With All Things, An Online MBA Has Its Advantages And Disadvantages. Find Out Why You Would Or Wouldn't Take Up A Distance Learning Degree Program.

Distance learning or online learning is fast becoming a popular way of taking up a Bachelors or even a Masters Degree program . This is because there are many advantages to distance learning. But at the same time there are disadvantages as well to taking an online learning especially if it's a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree Program.

First let's look at the advantages of distance learning. Time is one of the major factors why a lot of people choose to take up home study programs instead of studying in a university . If you take up distance learning you will save a lot of travel time to a campus and even eliminate the inconvenience of having to drive to the university, find a parking spot, rush to class, and then repeat the whole process when you have a class in the next campus.

With online learning, you also have the advantage of being able to study as and when you like. Because of this many people are able to take up part time and even full time jobs to support themselves while studying for their MBA degree . People like mothers who previously had no time to go out for classes now also have the opportunity to take up a Masters Degree program.

The other advantage of distance learning and having to communicate through the internet is the fact that some people find that they communicate better through writing. If you have a problem with an instructor you have the advantage of bringing your points across in a simple email instead of losing your train of thought when a scary lecturer bears down on you.

Apart from all the above advantages, one of the main benefits of online learning is cost . It costs a lot less to study from home than it does to study at a university campus. You eliminate the need to pay for apartment rent or travel costs. Even study materials are much cheaper because you will be able to download everything you need for your online MBA degree program off the internet.

Advantages to distance learning are many, but as with everything there are disadvantages as well. An online MBA doesn't always seem like a good idea because of the lack of human touch or personal experience that doesn't convey itself through the written word. With a Masters Degree program sometimes a hands on experience is more valuable and you won't get that through an online MBA.

Technical difficulties can also disrupt online learning. For example you might need to post up or hand up a piece of work but the university's server is down. You have no choice but to sit and wait till it is back up and running. Other technical difficulties that make distance learning hard are days where the internet is just slow and you can't get any of your research or work done. Either you will have to waste time waiting for the internet to load or make time to do it later.

Overall it seems like a good idea to take up distance learning. But at the same time it isn't for everyone and you really have to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of an online MBA before committing to it . There is no point in wasting time and money taking up 1 or 2 semesters or courses and then dropping out.

As distance learning and home study programs get more and more popular, it will be possible to wean out the disadvantages of an online program. But for the time being if you think you can live with them and if you think that the advantages are of huge benefit to you then by all means, take up an online MBA degree program!
