University of Tasmania, UTAS MBA (Master of Business Administration)

There’s a lot of work to be done and a lot of fun to be had when you attend the MBA degree program from the University of Tasmania, Australia.

The University of Tasmania MBA Program

One of the oldest Australian universities, the University of Tasmania actually stakes claim to being the 4 th university to be established in Australia . Starting off with a campus in Hobart in 1940, the University of Tasmania (or UTAS) now has a second campus over in Launceston.

FACT:
The University has a student population of 15,000 with a healthy number of 1500 international students.

University of Tasmania, UTAS MBA (Master of Business Administration)Tasmania itself is an amazing place that's actually build on an island away from mainland Australia . It's got beautiful coastlines, rugged mountains and tall forests. In fact, more than a third of the state is reserved as the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Australia even boasts that Tasmania might have the cleanest air in the world!

Hobart city is where the main campus of the University of Tasmania is located. It may seem like a quiet little town but it is in fact the second oldest city in Australia after Sydney . What's so special about this capital city is that it's small enough to avoid major city problems like pollution and traffic, but it's big enough to enjoy a lot of the modern comforts like theatres, cinemas and other forms of entertainment.

UTAS's second campus is located in the 3 rd oldest city in Australia , Launceston. This city is ‘made' for thrill seekers. If you're the kind of person who enjoys activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, or hang gliding, then Launceston is the place for you. The city is also famous for good food and it's Country Club Casino. Gambling can be fun, but remember, everything in moderation.

Studying MBA in the University of Tasmania

The MBA (Master of Business Administration) Degree from the University of Tasmania is run by its Faculty of Commerce. Its course structure consists of 12 units – 9 core units and 3 electives. For those who are looking for a little extra, UTAS also provides something called an MBA with specialization which consists of 7 electives instead of just 3.

FACT:
The MBA program at UTAS is a 3 semester program that is done over 12 to 18 months whereas the MBA with specialization is a two year, four semester program.

The core program of the MBA at the University of Tasmania will teach you about management knowledge and focus on developing your abilities to manage on both the operational and strategic levels. The course is actually designed for people who are more experienced and already in positions of responsibility. However even if you don't have any experience, the MBA program is also for those who aspire to be in the driver's seat.

For a MBA with specialization, you will choose to study subjects of a certain management field. These fields include: Human Resource Management, Professional Accounting, Information Systems, Marketing, Corporate Governance and so on. The MBA with specialization is the right kind of program to go for if your interest is in broadening your knowledge or developing your skills in a specific field.

To qualify for the MBA at UTAS you will need a third year degree or the equivalent and a minimum of 2 years working experience.

FACT:
If you don't have an undergraduate degree but you do have 7 years of relevant working experience, you can try taking the Graduate Certificate of Management. If you can successfully complete it, you can then enter the MBA or even MBA with specialization program without a third year degree.

Student Life

University of Tasmania, UTAS MBA (Master of Business Administration)UTAS's Hobart campus is only 15 minutes from the city center and is on the River Derwent. It's a beautiful campus with Mt Wellington as its backdrop. You'll be able to find everything at the Union Building . It's got a cafeteria, a mixed shop, post office, book store and student health service center. The Contact Centre is also located in the Union Building and that's where you want to go for information regarding the university or your program. The computer labs are also open 24 hours a day so you're free to use them as and when you like.

If you're the sporty, active type, you won't have to go very far to look for fun activities to do. The Hobart campus also has its own Sports & Recreation Centre with ample equipment and facilities for you to enjoy.

The University of Tasmania 's second campus is the Launceston campus that's only 10 minutes away from the city center. The campus is on the banks of the Tamar River and over the past few years, there has been a lot of construction and improvements made to it.

At The End Of The Day

University of Tasmania, UTAS MBA (Master of Business Administration)Both campuses sound like lovely places to be in for the duration of the course. For a nature lover like myself I look forward to enjoying the fresh air and the multitude of activities that I am able to try out. The campuses sound rather basic but I believe that the environment more than makes up for it. As for the MBA degree program offered by the University of Tasmania , it sounds rather intense and feels like it would be more suitable for those who have already had experience in this field of work. However that may only be for MBA with specialization and their core MBA program might not be as scary as I imagine it to be.
